To me its quite amusing how people preach how good and secure bitcoins and other crypto currencies are because they don't rely on banks to manage money and everything is secured by a well kept private key.
Yeah… well kept private keys… in the wild… 🤣
One day in the 1st level support of any middle-sized company and you know how well people can keep secrets. "Could you reset my password please?"
And no, key management is no different, guess why lock smiths exist?
@sheogorath ooooh it's just about _this_ secure: https://www.heise.de/news/Hacker-haben-2020-fast-3-8-Milliarden-US-Dollar-in-Kryptowaehrungen-erbeutet-5022133.html
@claudius I actually decided to write this after reading this article: https://www.tagesschau.de/wirtschaft/bitcoin-passwort-vergessen-101.html
Hehe, that's what I thought off immediately, too! :-)
(same story, different news outlet:
@sheogorath If people were good at managing secrets, 80% of the problems about security would have been solved automatically. And unfortunately there does not seem to be an easy workaround to people's inability (and sometimes pure ignorance to the security of their own information).
@sheogorath Also "no regulations!!" but when you lose your money you just fork the blockhain https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_DAO_(organization)
