Hobby photographers and FOSS enthusiasts, please get together and work on some nice CC0 photos for platforms like unsplash. Why? Because it can make a real difference for press, blogs and more. Help to show the beautiful side of free software and free software desktops to the world 😉
There are way too many pictures for proprietary apps and devices around.
Please correct me if I'm wrong but AFAIK Unsplash doesn't allow CC0 on their website. They only allow Unsplash licensed photos which are a variant of CC (I forget which one) but you can't use them in a Unsplash competitor website.
@davidak @lionirdeadman @pixelfed I mean, while I wasn't aware that unsplash uses a custom license, I still think it's one of the platforms I would aim for. As owner of the images, you can still upload them to other platforms without problems.
I guess, we will need to go for some non-free platforms, given how the ecosystem works. (My goal here is not to convert people away from their sources, but from the big brand images.)
@davidak @lionirdeadman @pixelfed also, at least multiple guides I've seen and read, suggest bloggers to use unsplash and I could image due to not being federated it'll be easier to find images one is looking for.
On the journalist side of things, it probably depends a bit on the media size, but they seem to use more paid (stock) image sources, as these have images that are a bit more exclusive and won't already be found too often around the web.
This is my personal microblog. It's filled with my fun, joy and silliness.
